"To whom it may concern: This is a letter of recommendation for Nick Smarto who has been working at Daedalus under my supervision for a period of nine months while completing his degree at Carnegie Mellon. During that period, I had the pleasure of seeing him progress from an engineering intern into a capable junior engineer. Nick is a hard-working self-starter who understands an assignment at the outset and how to get it done quickly and effectively. During his time here, I cannot remember an instance when he was not able to meet even a short deadline. Nick is resourceful, creative, and a solution-oriented person who comes up with new and innovative approaches to his assigned projects as needed. On the interpersonal side, Nick has good communication skills and gets along well with staff at every level. He works effectively as a team member and coordinates his efforts under the guidance of several project managers. Nick would be a welcome addition to our engineering staff if a position were available for him. However, our needs at the moment are in areas other than mechanical engineering. Based on my experience working with him, I can unreservedly recommend Nick Smarto to you for any entry-level mechanical engineering position. If you would like further details, feel free to call me (number witheld for privacy). Sincerely, Robert Parks, PE |
"To whom it may concern: It is with great pleasure that I provide this reference letter for Nicholas Smarto. I have had the pleasure to work with Nick during his engineering internship at Elliott Company in Jeannette, Pennsylvania. Nick brings to all of his activities energy, enthusiasm, and commitment. This is to be expected in any successful member of a marketing organization, and in this regard Nick fit in quite well. His quick grasp of detailed subject matter and his ability to effectively structure and communicate ideas, speaks well to his potential in an engineering discipline or in technical sales/marketing. In his role as an engineering intern, he delivered high-quality market analysis data, generated three-dimensional equipment renderings using Pro-Engineer software, assisted in the preparation and presentation of promotional brochures and assisted application engineers on complex proposals. Nick was a valued intern whom I learned to rely on, regardless of the difficulty of the task at hand or the novelty of the challenge. His combination of intelligence, commitment, perseverance, creativity, and his ability to work independently with minimal supervision will certainly make him a valuable member of any organization. The characteristics that Nick showed to me in his initial assignments led me to assign him more complex tasks which were completed beyond my expectations and make it easy for me to give him an unqualified endorsement.
